Ingredients
  

  • For the Dough:
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp sugar
  • tsp active dry yeast
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • For the Filling:
  • cups ground walnuts or almonds
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the Finish:
  • 1 beaten egg for brushing
  • Powdered sugar optional

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Loaf pan or baking sheet
  • Small saucepan (for warming milk and butter)
  • Whisk or fork (for egg)
  • Pastry brush (for egg wash)
  • Kitchen towel or plastic wrap

Method
 

  1. Activate the Yeast: Warm milk, sprinkle yeast, let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy.

  2. Make the Dough: Mix flour, sugar, salt, egg, butter, and yeast mixture. Knead until smooth. Let rise 1–1½ hours.
  3. Prepare the Filling: Mix nuts, brown sugar, cinnamon, milk, butter, and vanilla.

  4. Roll and Fill: Roll dough into a rectangle, spread filling evenly, and roll into a log.
  5. Second Rise: Place in pan or coil, cover, and let rise 45 minutes.
  6. Bake: Brush top with egg, bake at 175°C (350°F) for 60–70 minutes until golden.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let cool before slicing. Optionally dust with powdered sugar.
